Tea Bowls By Kim Ok Hyung 김 옥 형으로 차 그릇

Earlier this year, I participated in the 2011 Mascabal Woodfire Workshop. It was held in Brenham, Texas. The Mascabal Workshop is an anuual event that involves potters from many countries who come together and fire kilns and have a cultural exchange. The event originated in Osan, South Korea. It was started by Kim Yong Moon, who is still the primary organizer.

During the event, I met Miss Kim, who is from South Korea. One day, I brought her and my friend Mi-Kyung a woodfired vase. Miss Kim gave me a pair of her tea bowls. I could not believe the quality of her work. She specializes in tea pots and tea bowls. She is a well known artist who has had several one person exhibitions. I think of her as my friend. I would have liked to have seen her when I was in South Korea, but unfortunately it did not happen. Hopefully, I'll get to see her next year.

Here are the 2 bowls. The light glaze compliments the natural color of the clay. What really sets the bowls apart is the fish drawings inside the bowls. Fantastic!!!
