The rates were fairly close, but I chose the one with the slightly higher rate. This location consistently had the best rate that I could find. The store is in Songtan, South Korea. I was told that these little shops give the best rates. The banks and hotels should be avoided unless you need the cash immediately. It wouldn't hurt to ask for the rate though, who knows it might even be better. Even if the rates are different, they really aren't that far apart. I wouldn't spend a lot of time walking around and searching for the absolute best rate. I would take a fair rate and then go have fun.
Here's how the exchange works. First, you ask for the rate and then agree to the exchange rate that the store offers. It might be negotiable, I'm not sure. The rate should be really close to what is being quoted on the internet. You slide your currency to the person behind the window. Usually, the worker will show you how much Won you will receive on a calculator. Then, he will count out the bills. I did not know that a human's fingers could move that fast.
