Eating a meal in Korea involves a lot more sharing than I was prepared for. I have never eaten a meal that had bowls of food that everyone at the table ate out of. Chopsticks are going into the food, into mouths, and back again. After you get over the shock of seeing this, you get hungry and start eating. After awhile, you get over it and enjoy yourself. After a couple of meals you are not usually used to it, but it seems like it should always be that way. Eating a Korean meal is more social than the way we eat in the United States. In the United States, we tend to talk and eat at a meal. That is about it. During a Korean meal, you are eating out of a common bowls, people are serving you, and pouring your drink. During most big meals, someone is cooking at the table. There is much concern that you are getting enough to eat. I found it very enjoyable and felt closer to the people that I ate with. I wish that more people from America could experience this. While you may be able to go to a Korean restaurant near your house, I think you actually have to go to Korea to experience what I felt during those meals. One other thing that is different about a large Korean meal, singing. While it may not occur during every large meal, don't be surprised if it does happen. It's another thing that you not only get used to, but you really enjoy.
