I only saw a few police cars during my visit to South Korea. It seems like most of the police force is made up of very young men who work on foot. There was one unusual thing that I noticed about the cars. They always had their flashing lights on. In the United States, the police only turn on their lights if it is an emergency or if they are doing a traffic stop. The flashing lights almost always bring a little worry and maybe even a small amount of fear when you see them. I'm not sure why the South Korean police do this. Maybe this is to help the people locate them, let everyone know they are working, or something else. Whatever the reason, it is different than I see on a daily basis in the United States.
