3 Wood Fired Bottles, Part 1 3 나무 해 고 병, 1 부

These are some of my favorites wood fired bottles. They were fired last year at Northern Arizona University. The bottles were fired in the double wide train kiln. They were loaded in a prime location, directly under a side stoke hole. We really stuff a lot of wood through the side stoke holes on the big train kiln. Everything under the openings gets a lot of ash.

These bottles are about as good as it gets. Of course, that depends on what you like. Personally, I like rough surfaces, runny ash, and flashed colors. These pots have that and even more. It was nice that the 3 bottles were fired next to each other. The 3 bottles are located at the top of the photo.

I guess the best compliment that a wood firer can get is that the other potters can't keep their hands and eyes off it. When we unload a wood kiln, we have to form a line of people from the kiln to the unloading area. As a really good pot gets passed down the line, everyone handles it for a moment. Those special piece of pottery causes the line to move slow. That is the ultimate compliment to a potter. Here my friend Rena examines one of the bottles as it leaves the kiln.
