For all of this bad driving, I saw suprisingly few accidents. I saw less accidents in 3 weeks than I see in a day or two in my hometown in the United States. Also, I never saw a police car looking for speed or traffic light offenses. If you absolutely want to drive in South Korea, I think you could rent a car in a smaller town and stick to the highways and smaller cities. The highways have a lot of toll booths, so even that might be a problem. My suggestion is to stick with the South Korean public transportation. It's inexpensive, dependable, and goes everywhere in the country.

I do not want to come off as being disrespectful of the Korean drivers. They do avoid accidents, I don't know how. Also, the do get to there distination, somehow. My experiences may be different from yours. It could have been the many drivers of the vehicles that I drove in. It could also be that I happened to be walking by intersections and saw things that rarely happen. I don't think so, but it is possible. Be safe everyone.
