I'm halfway through this workbook. I have looked just about every Korean language book that is available at the bookstores. This one works best for me. The way that the material is presented actually sticks in my head. It's at a low beginner level, but it isn't boring. The audio cd is really good and it could be played in the car, but it is really better suited to help complete the assignments in the workbook. The cost was $20 US and well worth it.

The second book that I have been studying in is more of an advanced beginner book. The concepts are still fairly basic, but the emphasis is on sentence structure and grammar. Somehow, this book actually explains Korean grammar in a way that I can understand. No other book that I know of is able to do this. If you are going to be a casual tourist in South Korea, I think your time would be better served learning nouns, verbs, and small phrases. However, if you want to hold short conversations, this book is for you.

I also try to read for an extra 20 to 30 minutes every day. I can read well, but not very fast. I also have a little problem with some of the double vowels. Even though I can read, I usually don't know any of the words that I'm reading. That should change with time. This book is about a famous Korean potter, Kim Yong Moon. I like the book, but the print is so small that my eyes start watering after 5 minutes and I have to stop and rest. You can also read off of the internet easily. I'm hoping that my 10,000 Won bookmark will help me remember more.
This is going to be my Korean study for the next 9 weeks or so. I'd like to add a tutor, but I haven't been able to find one. Around the third week of January the school that I take Korean languages classes opens up again.
