I bought travel insurance for my trip to South Korea again. I'm not sure if it is necessary or not. However, it does give me a little comfort when I'm travelling to a foreign country. It gives you insurance for trip cancellation, trip delay, baggage, lost items, weather, terrorism, employment layoff, work reasons. I also bought a policy with cancel for any reason insurance. There is also medical and evacuation insurance. It pretty much covers everything, maybe. Part of the problem is that you have insurance from other places like your credit card, your personal health insurance, airline guarantees, and others. The problem will be that every company will want the other to pay. Also, some of the companies will want you to pay for the costs and seek reimbursement when you get home. Finally, you actually have to get someone to pay without finding some obscure clause that prevents you from collecting the money. So, is it worth it? I have no idea.
I find my travel insurance at www.squaremouth.com . It is a website where several companies can list their policies and prices for the insurance that you seek. Squaremouth is supposed to make sure that the insurance companies provide good service. They will not allow any company to list on their website if they are not reputable. Do they actually help? Again, I don't know.
I ended up buying my policy from Travel Safe. It had the policy that fit my requirements and budget. They seem to have a good reputation.

I booked my airfare to South Korea last night. I paid $1236, which is about what I paid last year. I really wanted to leave one week later, but the price for that airfare was $1486. I also decided to buy the seats with 5 extra inches of leg room on the overseas flights. Those flights are over 12 hours long. Last year, I really suffered with my knees crammed into the back of the chair in front of me. I think it will be well worth the $129 extra dollars each way. Now, I'm also officially broke. I will have to cut my spending back drastically so that I'll have plenty money for my trip this Fall. Still, it will be worth it once I place my two feet on South korean ground again.

New Mountain Bike 새로운 산악 자전거
I can't stand going to the gym and walking on the treadmill anymore. So, I decided to buy a mountain bike. I haven't ridden a bike in the last 27 years. Tomorrow I am going to take my bike out for its first ride. Hopefully, I will survive.
I have a lot of friends who ride regularly. They bike in small groups and also are members of some mountain biking clubs. I bought the bike because I am attracted to the social benefits. I also like the fact that I live in Texas and the highest "mountain" around here is maybe 20 feet tall. I am almost positive that I can climb that.
It took me forever to find a place to store my bike. I finally found a spot over my slab roller. It's hard to believe that I actually had some unused space.
For those that are into mountain bikes, here is what I bought. It is a 2013 Specialized 29er Hardrock Sport. All that I know is that it is a bike. Now, I have to buy a bunch of other things that I know nothing about. Special gloves, riding shorts, and a helmet and who knows what else. What have I gotten myself into?

I plan to travel to South Korea in early October for 3 weeks. Back in December I did a search for airfares during that time period. The airfare was $1065 US. That included all taxes and fees. Now, the same airfare is $1486 US. I can leave during the last week of September for $1235, which is a little better.
The airfares have really been changing a lot lately. I have seen the same flight change prices 3 times in one day. I am going to give it one or two more weeks, then I'm going to buy the ticket. I don't think I can afford it to go up in price any more. I really want to leave in October, but I would rather have the extra $256 US. That gives me more than enough money to purchase the upgraded seating. United Airlines has Economy Plus seating which gives you 5 or 6 inches extra leg room. After my trip to South Korea last year, that is absolutely worth the money.

Current Korean Won Exchange Rate Rise 현재 원 환율 상승
I check to Korean Won to US Dollar exchange rate every morning on Yahoo Finance. I find the currency markets completely mysterious. I have no idea what makes a currency go up or down. I also have no idea why a currency can jump or drop 15% in value in a few hours. I know that the markets are driven by fear, speculators, and other factors. Still, I find it fascinating.
Last October, I hit the peak Korean Won to US Dollar exchange rate for the year. The top rate was 1196 Won To the Dollar. I am hoping that the rate will be high again this October when I go back to South Korea. Currently, the Won to US Dollar rate has been climbing daily for the last 3 weeks. While it will have little impact on the rate in October, I am still hopeful.
