I used my slab roller to make the slabs that I used for these tests. It usually serves as a table, but it is nice to run some clay through it. I bought this slab roller from Bailey Pottery. It is 22 inches wide. I like that it is a one pass slab roller. You can pile 4 or more inches of clay at the roller and it will still push it through. The only drawback is that it doesn't make slabs less than 1/4 inch thick. I need a thinner slab for these bowls. In the future, I'll use the slab roller to make a slab and then roll it thinner with a rolling pin.

I also used the round molds that I made out of plaster. These are 6 inches wide, which is perfect for these bowls. The plaster not only forms the bowl shape, but it helps dry the clay by absorbing moisture. The blue turn table is a Shimpo banding wheel. I like it a lot. It makes it much easier to work on the bowls.

Here is the inside of one of the bowls that I made. You can see that it is perfectly smooth. You can also see that it is too thick. It needs to be about half this thickness. That will also speed the drying time.
