This is a huge bee hive kiln that was used to fire bricks long ago. As I look at the roof in the photo, I wonder how I made it into the kiln. I do not go into structures like caves, or even wood fire kilns, unless I absolutely have to. However, I was absolutely thrilled to be inside this historic kiln.

I would guess that this kiln was at 100 feet across, possibly much more. There were small boxes outside the kiln that the wood was fired. The bee hive kiln is an updraft kiln. They aren't very efficient and requires tons of wood to fire. By looking at the kiln walls, it almost looks like the kiln was salted during the firing. It also looks like the roof may have been replaced at some point.

The fence hides an area of the bee hive kiln that was too dangerous. I barely remember seeing this. It looks like the walls are falling down. I think if I returned to this kiln, I would be taking pictures from the outside and loaning my camera to someone who went into the kiln.

There is one very, very cool thing about this kiln. First, you need to people to be up against the wall on opposite sides of the room.
