I am going to be in South korea for 3 weeks this Fall. I have taken 12 weeks of beginning Korean language classes. I have studied on my own by reading books and watching Youtube videos. I am going to have a very hard time communicating when I am on my trip. Fortunately, there is an aid that will help in certain situations. It is my Ipod Touch. There are two apps that will enable me to speak with the Korean people.

Here is how the apps work. First, you hold down a button and speak English. After you release the button, the Ipod will say the words in Korean. It also works in reverse. Writing text is another way to translate. Simply write the words in English push a button and it speaks the words in Korean. Again, this also works in reverse. You can go into the setup menu and add any keyboard that you need.

It is a very good and it is free.

The best Korean translater app that works anywhere is the Jibbigo app. The success rate is lower than the Google version. I would estimate it at about 80%. Also, it almost never understands me when I speak Korean. I think that is in line with all Koreans.
