Torso Vase 몸통 바스

I love pots that have human qualities to them. I see my older bottle forms as female, with their graceful necks and full hips. My newer bottle forms are more masculine, with a shorter thicker neck and a full chest. These characteristics are subtle. Sometimes, it is nice to make a pot that is more human like.

After the Archie Bray woodfire workshop, Tara Wilson gave all of the participants a "torso"vase. It is a small bud vase that appears to have a waist, arms, and feet. It is by my computer monitor and I look at it daily. I really treasure it.

This is my attempt at a "torso" vase. I only made a few of them. I would like to revisit this form and see if I could improve it. That shouldn't be too hard. The blue dot is a piece of cobalt glass. Maybe that wasn't the best idea. I go through periods of time when I love to add glass or feldspar or whatever I can find to the clay.

This is one of the reasons that I don't use slips during woodfiring. This is how they always turns out. The slip is peeling and it appears a little plastic in appearance. I just use bare clay. I am not opposed to using shinos though.
