I like to put together groups of pots when I display them. Usually, I like groups of 3, sometimes 5. I just find it interesting to see the subtle ways that they are similar and different. Generally, you will have to place woodfired pots in the same firing to find two pots that look like each other. Even then, the difference in color and texture will be great. Here are two bottles that have a common look.

The bottles were made out of white stoneware. My favorite clay for woodfiring is Laguna's B-mix. It throws like a dream. It also can turn just about every color in the rainbow when it is woodfired. It looks good when it is slightly underfired and it also looks great when it is severely overfired.

Neither of these pots had any glaze on them.They were both fired standing up. They are colored purely by wood ash and the volatiles that are released by the burning wood. The flashed areas are a purple red color. The side that faced the firebox, and received the most ash, is a green yellow. The drips on each of the bottles is a good focal point of interest.

The second bottle has a nice seashell mark. It must have been placed close to the kiln wall, or stacked near another pot. Once again, it is another area of interest with the nice ash drip falling from it.
