You do not need to know Korean in order to travel around South Korea. This is especially true in Seoul and Busan, the largest cities in South Korea. For example, on the subways, all signs are in Korean, English, and either Chinese or Japanese. All announcements on the subways are in these languages as well. Here are a couple signs in the Hongdae AREX station. The first sign tells you the direction to the tracks and which direction the subway will travel. The other sign shows all of the stops along the length of AREX line. By the way, there is also another AREX line that travels from the airport to Seoul Station without stopping.

While you do not need to know Korean to travel to South Korea, I would encourage you to learn how to read the alphabet and learn a few words and phrases. It is really easy and I find it quite fun and rewarding.
