Bear Sculpture In Insadong 인사동에 곰 조각

This bear sculpture seemed out of place. I am not sure if this was done by a Korean artist or if it was donated by an artist from another country. The drawings on the side of the bear remind me of art from Hawaii or the Pacific Northwest of the United States. The themes of the drawing seem to be of Korean origin, but I am not sure. I like the artwork but it confuses me.

This sculpture form is fairly common in the United States. Some city or organization will construct a number of identical sculptures like this. They could be cows, horses, birds, or even bears like this. The sculptures are then given to artists to create on. Usually, the artworks are auctioned off for charity or are displayed at prominent places of the city.
