This pot was fired in a train kiln for 3 days. It was fired during a 2 week wood fire workshop in Montana. Tara Wilson was our leader. Everyone made great pots and everyone had a great time.

The markings on this pot are very interesting. It was the first time that I had seen wood ash markings like this. One of the potters at the Archie Bray Foundation explained that this is called popcorn ash. It occurs when large flakes of wood ash land on the pots. Usually the wood ash is almost dust like. These wood ash flakes were up to 1/2 inch across. We think that the reason for this is our wood supply. We burned pine to heat the kiln. However, this wood had high percentage of bark. We think the bark created the large ash flakes.
