Spiral Red Wood Fired Vase 나선형 붉은 나무 해 꽃병

This vase was fired in the train kiln at the Archie Bray Foundation in Helena, Montana. This photo shows the results of the firing. It is nice to compare the different clay bodies and how they react to the firing conditions. It was this firing that caused me to switch from red clay bodies to white stoneware and porcelain.

This is another vase that I made in my first few months of making pottery. It is made out of a high iron clay. It looks like it had a flashing slip on its surface. I don't think I would put a flashing slip on a red iron clay body if I had to fire it again. The vase was fired on several seashells. When I first started potter, I liked to put spiral markings on most of my pots. I still really like spiral markings, I just don't ad them to my pots anymore.
