Torn Bowl 찢어진된 그릇

A few years ago, I made some bowls out of a clay body that I read about in a magazine. The photos in the magazine were beautiful. I couldn't wait to make this clay. I dreamed of pots that I would make out of this clay. Maybe, even my my pots would be beautiful enough to be in a magazine. It turned out I was wrong, these bowls did not look like the pictures. I feel that they are actually sort of ugly.

I was able to place some of the bowls near the fire box of the anagama. This is one of the best spots in the kiln. Again, I couldn't wait to see how beautiful my bowls would be.

I like the shape of the bowl. I would make them in a different way now though. The glaze looks like burnt plastic in some areas. There was no flash of color like I wanted. Also, the I added too much feldspar to the clay. The feldspar creates the little glass bubbles on the surface. I like feldspar but I overdid it with this clay. Another property of clay is its ability to hold ash. Clays like porcelain mature early and ash collects on its surface and form nice glaze drips. So, be cautious of what you read about in the pottery books and magazines. Your pots may not turn out like the photos.
