This is a ring of Saturn pot. I think most woodfirers have done this before. It can be done with wadding or with another pot. I have seen some plates that had a sake set fired on top of them. They were gorgeous. It is pretty easy to make one of these. I made a donut out of wadding. I allowed it to dry. That is important. Otherwise the flame won't be able to get under the donut. Them, place the wadding donut on top of the pot. Do not place anything on top of the wadding.

I placed the bottle on its side in the kiln. I placed it on a handfull of small waddding. I am not sure why I did this. It must have been due to have a pile of wadding that was getting too stiff. Sometimes you have to do things quickly when you have a big kiln to fire. Still, it made another nice design on the pot. Beware of being an idot to the loaders. You may end up with wadding marks that you do not like. Also, be aware that the loaders get tired and their sense of humor will catch up with you. I remember that we once placed a bunch of wadding that was placed like an X all over someone's pots. He had dozens and he didn't prewad like he was supposed to. For some reason he really loved them.

This is the side of the bottle that faced the firebox. It is basically solid gray. This is a red iron clay body. In a normally kiln atmosphere it would be some shade of red.
