The Entrance To The AREX Hongik University Station AREX 홍 익 대학교 역 입구

Here is the entrance to the AREX Hongik Station. The AREX is the express train that runs from Incheon airport to Seoul Station. There are 2 AREX lines. One is an express that runs straight from Incheon to Seoul Station without stopping. The other line makes about 8 additional stops, including Hongik Station. My rental apartment was a short walk from the station. The best part about the AREX is that it has few riders and is extra wide to accommodate  passengers with luggage.

The AREX line is fairly new so everything is modern. The escalators do not run unless there are passengers. They must have a sensor that activates when people pass by. This turns the escalators on. Unfortunately, the escalators weren't working at all when I was in Hongdae. I was there during the Chuseok holiday and there were very few people around the Hongik University area. The escalators were turned off. Fortunately or unfortunately, there were stairs next to the escalators.
