V Sign Photos V 기호 사진

I do not understand why so many of the young Koreans made the V sign when they posed for a photograph. It has to be a cultural thing or maybe it is something they learn in school. The older South Koreans didn't do this. So, I'm confused.  It's not a bad thing, it's just different that what I'm used to. Here are a few examples about what I'm talking about.

These young kids were in Insadong on a camera field trip for school. They were roaming the street taking photos for class. Both of these groups approached me and asked for a photo. I agreed and asked if I could take one of them.

This young lady was working at a folk festival in Anseong, South Korea. She was a newspaper seller. I think she was supposed to be a young boy. She spoke good English and I enjoyed talking to her.
