South Korean Butterfly Cups 대한민국 나비 컵

I bought these two cups from a potter in Icheon, South Korea. She was a really nice lady and made really nice pottery. As soon as I walked into the shop, she asked if I wanted a cup of tea. I don't think there is any better way to shop for pottery than sipping on a cup of hot tea. Needless to say, I bought some cups from her. I wish that more potters would do this in their shops. This simple act creates a bond between the shop owner and customer.

These cups are around 3 1/4 inches tall. The inside glaze is creamy white. The outside glaze is wonderful. It is sort of a two tone green glaze. The butterfly decoration is glaze that was painted on after the main glaze was applied. These cups are simple and beautiful. I think that this is something that most any potter could make. However, simple forms demand much attention to detail and glazing is very important.
