This bottle was reduction cooled in a wood fired kiln. It was fired in a train kiln for 3 days. We used pine wood, but we sprayed potassium on the wood to help create more color and crystals in the glaze layer. Pine provides good heat and is free where we fire. However, it is not as mineral rich as other woods. Adding the potassium to the wood makes up for this. Also, by spraying the potassium on the wood, we are adding water to the kiln atmosphere. This creates flame movement and helps promote flashing and a bumpy glaze surface.
