Shino Bottle 시노 병

I hardly ever put a glaze on my pots when I wood fire. However, I glazed most of my pots in my first wood firing at the Archie Bray. There were various buckets of shinos and I dipped a few pots in all of them. I will admit that I do like woodfired shinos. I also admit that I hate all wood fired slips. They are the primary reason that I don't put anything on my pots before I put them in the wood kilns.

This bottle was placed on the floor in the middle of the kiln. The bottle got a lot of ash due to being next to a side stoke hole. We side stoked the anagama for at least 2 days of the 3 to 4 day firing. In the photo, Ryan Mitchell looks over the results. Ryan did almost all of the loading of this kiln. He did a really good job. I really thank him for all of his hard work.

The bottle was made out of a cone 10 red clay. It is made by Armadillo Clay and is called Balcones. I have found this clay to react really well in the wood kiln. If I liked red clays, this would be one of the ones that I used. I think the bottle is around 9 inches tall. I really like this little bottle.
