I personally prefer working alone. There are no distractions and I can work at my own pace. Sometimes, I throw off and on from 7 in the morning until 10 at night. This is usually during one of the wet periods. I will create another post showing my working methods. It will make that a little more clear.

My basic setup is my Shimpo pottery wheel, my slab roller, and shelves for storing pots. I love my Shimpo VL Whisper. I find it hard to use anything else now. My slab roller is from Bailey's. I don't use it much, but I think it is the best one on the market. I got my shelves from Sam's Club. They have adjustable shelves, which is very, very important for potters who make lots of different size work. The shelves are heavy duty. They are rated at 1200 pounds capacity. I did replace the composite shelves with 3/4 inch plywood.

I use a lot of plastic bins to store small tools and other pottery supplies. I think that I can actually find the tools that I want easier. The only problem is that I forget to put the tools back where they belong. The bins are easy to remove from the shelves when I need more room to store to pottery. I have reduced the number of items in the bins. However, I seem to be adding more items lately. I am sure I will be bringing back a lot of new pottery tools from my trip to South korea.

Since I live about 30 miles from the Gulf of Mexico, I have to deal with extreme humidity. I can't store my raw materials in the paper bags that they come in. I have to put the powdered clays in buckets and the various oxides and colorants in plastic jars. Otherwise, they clump together and become hard as a rock. This method works for me. I sometimes have a lot more raw materials than I do in these photos. It depends if I plan on making a new clay body. I have a good ceramic supplier, but I have to special order most things. Wood firing clays need special materials that are not used in other clays.

This is one of the shelving units. There is not a lot of work on it in this picture. Also, I have all of the small bowls and cups in plastic bins now. I have to leave room on the shelves when I am making new work. Sometimes pots end up being stored outside or on the floor. I could definitely use a studio about 4 times this big. That is my wish. Maybe it will come true one day.
