It is very easy and inexpensive to call the United States while you are in South Korea. You can get a phone card at any small store. I bought this card and it cost 10,000 Won. This is slightly more than $8 US. I got somewhere near 2 hours and 20 minutes of talk time to the United States. That is about around 17 cents US per minute. I think that is a pretty good rate. I'm sure that you could find a 5,000 Won or less phone card if you asked.

There are a lot of phone booths in the South Korean cities that I visited. There are always several in the subway and bus stations. Most of the ones that I saw were either light blue or dark red in color. There is usually 2 or more of the booths together.

When I call South Korea from the United States, I pay a lot more. It is almost $1 US per minute. I am positive that I can find a better calling card next time. This one was a AT&T gold worldwide card that I bought at Walmart. I think I have to dial an exit country code and a destination country code when I dial the South Korean number. I'm not sure why it is different when calling from South Korea.
