Sosabeol, 2011 International Art Expo Day 1, Part 1 Sosabeol, 2011 국제 아트 엑스포 하루 1, 파트 1

I was invited to participate in Sasobeol, an international art expo that was held in Pyeongtaek, South Korea. It was really a surprise that I was invited to attend. My friend in South Korea entered me in the competition. She had one of my pots and had a few photos of me. My biography in the artist program was basically empty. I wish that I could have written a few things to be put in the book. I also wish that I could have entered a pot that is more representative of my current work. However, with these small misgivings, I was very happy and proud to attend the expo. I really wish to than my friend, Mi-Kyung again.

I am posing with the vase that was entered into the exhibition. It was glazed and fired at the 2011 Mascabal International Woodfire Workshop. Several famous Korean potters came to Texas, where I lived, and fired pottery in a new wood kiln. I was lucky to attend the event and make friends with several of the potters. It was this event that ultimately led me to South Korea.

After visiting with my fellow artists, it was time for the opening ceremony. Many, many, many speeches were given. Everyone seemed to enjoy it and I clapped when they did. Like everyone who was entered in the show, I came out and took a bow when my name was read. I think I bowed a little too deep or something. I heard a couple of laughs. Oh well, it wasn't the first time that I did something wrong in South Korea.

After the speeches were over, the artists talked and shared their work. There were at least 10 countries represented. Most of the people spoke 2 or 3 languages well. We were able to communicate by speaking to those who spoke our language and translated for us. Sometimes the words had to go through 3 or 4 people before it was translated into the proper language. It was really fun. Who knows if the original message was properly relayed.

At the close of the opening ceremony a group of flute players performed. I'm not too familiar with flute playing but it was nice. The young ladies were good performers as well as good musicians.
