Songtan Bus Station 송탄 버스 역

My hotel was about 200 yards uphill from the Songtan Bus Station. There is an express bus that travels from Incheon Airport to the station. The cost is 13,000 Won or around $12 US. The bus station gives you access to all of South Korea. You will probably have to switch buses at a few stations to get to most destinations. I went to the Icheon pottery festival 3 times. I took the bus from Songtan to Songnam. Then, I caught a bus from Songnam to Icheon. It is easy to travel by bus in South Korea.

Here a few photos of the bus station lot. There are buses arriving about every 5 minutes during the day. There are signs to tell you which bus is yours. The buses also have their destinations written on them. However, the buses only have Korean writing on them. Learn to read Korean. You can easily do it in a few days. I always showed my ticket to the driver and made sure that I was on the right bus. Sometimes, I did get on the wrong bus. Bus tickets are cheap. You can travel a long way for under $5. For example, I was able to travel from Songtan to Icheon for around $14 round trip.

Here is the area where you catch the bus. The buses are almost always on time. Everyone that I caught was exactly on time. Most tickets have a number of a space where your bus will park. For some reason, the tickets at Songtan didn't have this. You might get lucky and have the ticket seller write it down for you. I never saw anyone who spoke English selling tickets. All that you have to do is walk down the buses and match your destination with your ticket. You can do this even if you don't read Korean.

Here is where you book your ticket. There is a chart that lists the destinations and the times that the buses leave. If you do not see your destination, you will need to go to one of the listed destinations and get on another bus. I was able to find someone to help me get to Incheon. He talked to the ticket agent and found out that I needed to go to Songnam first. You will find many South Koreans who will help if they can. Many, many times I needed help and someone nice was always there to help me out.
