Three Bottle Grouping 세 병의 그룹화

In this post I will go into a little detail on 3 of my bottles. These 3 bottles were fired in 2009 in the Tozan Anagama. The firing took place during the annual Summer wood fire workshop at Northern Arizona University. The university is located in Flagstaff, Arizona. I believe that we fired the kiln for 5 days.

Here is a picture of the kiln being fired. I love this kiln and the work that it produces. I also love stoking this beast. I wish I was firing it now. I think that I wish that every day. So, this isn't anything unusual.

All of the bottles were fired on their sides. We used a simple wadding made of sawdust, kaolin,and sand. These 3 bottles had the top facing towards the firebox and were on the top shelf towards the front of the kiln. None of the bottles had any glaze or slips. They were made out of a white stoneware. I used Laguna's B-mix.

The Tozan anagama is a tight kiln and cools slowly. This allows plenty of crystalline growth in the glaze. You can see some of the crystals in the next photo. At one time during the firing of this kiln, we had the catenary arch kiln and the double wide train kiln on at the same time. It was........Heaven.
