This is supposed to be a pottery blog, but it may end up being a travel blog, or.... I started this blog to document an upcoming trip to South Korea to visit friends and make pottery. The 2011 Mascabal Woodfire Workshop was held close to my house. It is normally in South Korea, but this year it was in Brenham, Texas. I wasn't actually invited, but I showed up and never left. If you have a woodfiring, watch out.

The workshop was held at the home of Doug Peck, a Blinn College professor who had attended the festival in South Korea. We were able to fire his newly built noborigama for the first time. The results were excellent.

There was amazing group of potters, local community types, and the guy who wouldn't leave (me). Fortunately, I sported the missing left eyebrow, the smudged face, and had the smelly glove aroma. I fit right in. Here is a group picture with most of the regulars. There were a few other riff raffs (I hope that's a word, I'm using it anyway) that had to work, or slept late.

One of the Korean potters invited to come visit her and make some pottery in her studio. Little did she know that I would accept. I will be in South Korea for 3 weeks this Fall. My friendship with Chae has grown as the months have passed. I am thankful for all of the internet translators that have allowed us to communicate. I look forward to seeing her soon.
