Seoraksan- Small Temple 설악산-작은 사원

On the way up to the top of Ulsan Bawi you will pass through the middle of a small Buddhist temple. I think this is one of the remote temples called hermitages. There is usually only one monk in the lodging who is meditating. The trail leads almost through the middle of the tiny building. It would make it difficult to mediate. Maybe that is the point.

When I was hiking the various mountains around South Korea, I would often hear monks chanting in the mountain air. I would usually be struggling and having a difficult time walking. When I heard the chanting it gave me strength and walking was much easier. Then, the chanting would become very faint and I would resume the difficult hike.
