Train Kiln Fired Altered Vase 기차 마 해 변경 꽃병

This vase was fired in a train kiln at Northern Arizona University. The university holds a 2 week wood firing workshop every summer. I have attended 4 out of the last 5 years. I will back again this year in July. I look forward to firing all of the big wood kilns every year.

This vase was fired the first year that I went to the workshop. The vase was placed close to the fire box and received a lot of wood ash. We actually fired this kiln too hot and too long. The vase was stuck to the wall and to the floor of the kiln. It has a couple of big scars from being pried loose. I actually prefer wood fired pots with stuck wadding, cracks, and other imperfections. However, they must happen naturally. If they are purposely done by human hands, they are worthless, as far as I am concerned.

Here are some of the vases stacked in some strange patterns. Our kiln loader had a very unusual approach to loading the kiln. In some ways it was good, in other ways, it was not good at all.
