Korean Folk Tale: The Two Brothers 한국 민속 이야기: 두 형제

A long time ago, there lived 2 brothers. They treated each other with love and kindness. The people in the valley, where they lived, thought highly of them. They took care of their ailing mother until her death. Later, they divided everything equally between the 2 of them without arguement. Together, they worked hard every day to produce as much as they could from their fields. Every Autumn, they would have the biggest harvest in the village.

One late Autumn day, they spent the afternoon dividing up the last of the rice harvest.Ther older brother thought to himself, "My younger brother just got married a few months ago. He has many expenses these days. I think I'll put a sack of my portion in his store house and not tell him." He knew the brother would never accept it.

So, late one night, he put a sack of rice on his back and carried it to his brother's store room. The next day, the older brother was surprised to find out he still had the same number of sacks of rice as he had before. "That's strange," he said. "I'll just carry another one to his store room tonight." Late that night he carried another sack of rice to his brother's house. The next morning, he was again surprised to find out he had the same number of rice sacks as before. He stood there, confused until evening.
